Artwork

Isn't the artwork awesome? I was going for something straight out of a Studio Ghibli movie (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro…if you know you know) during autumn. I love this style and how it turned out.

Lyrics

This song is somewhat autobiographical, referencing some of my impactful childhood and young adult memories, and makes the point that the joy we find in life comes more from the journey or “race” itself, rather than the destination. Each day is special in its own way.

Music

Musically, it's a feel-good upbeat pop song with several textures. It features a chorus with a (at the time of recording) 10ish year old girl who sang a super catchy hook for me. The verses feature some choral and string work that I'm excited to share. And finally, I think my favorite part may be the bridge--which kicks off with an orchestral drop that is pretty special. :)

lyrics

Verse:
As a kid I grew up in a house in the middle of the states
In a happy home where I knew I would be safe
Down the street there were boys that found trouble every day
And I always wondered why that happened when we played

Riding bikes after school was a rush, feel the breeze
Showing off, playing cool when your crush is pleased
I remember staying up all night with friends
Living for each moment

Chorus:
The daily grind, is the gain
The finish line, may not come today
There's joy in the journey, there's purpose in our pain
I've found The prize is the race

Verse 2:
From youth camps near the Flagstaff mountain heights
To college trips like my South Korean Flight
I made friends, and grew, and began to find

All the things that make me feel so alive

I am neither the boy that I once was
Nor the man that I’m striving to become
But my feet are always moving
It’s a joy to run

Chorus:
The daily grind, is the gain
The finish line, may not come today
There's joy in the journey, there's purpose in our pain
I've found The prize is the race

Bridge:
Time really flies
I wanna make the most of my life
To not waste one day
'Cause each moment is special in its own way
